Instrument Rating Flight Test
Transport Canada Instrument Rating Flight Test or Proficency Check
Service Description
The Instrument Rating Flight Test (Aeroplane) is conducted in accordance with Transport Canada Standard 428 – Flight Test Standards, under the applicable Schedule for the Instrument Rating (Group 1, 2, or 3). This evaluation measures a pilot’s ability to safely operate an aircraft solely by reference to instruments, including flight planning, departure, enroute, approach, and missed-approach procedures. Candidates are assessed on their instrument scan, navigation accuracy, situational awareness, and decision-making under simulated or actual instrument meteorological conditions. Successful completion demonstrates that the pilot meets Transport Canada’s standards for instrument proficiency and qualifies for the Instrument Rating endorsement, authorizing flight in controlled airspace under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).
